Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is an ancient time-tested method that uses suction to gently lift the skin and underlying tissues. Unlike traditional massage, which compresses the muscle, cupping creates negative pressure — drawing tissues upward to increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and support the body’s natural detox process. It’s a powerful tool for addressing stubborn tension, chronic pain, and sluggish recovery zones. At my clinic in Ranelagh, I use cupping as part of a broader remedial massage treatment plan. Whether it’s for a locked-up lower back, knotted shoulders, or post-workout fatigue, cupping can be a helpful — and surprisingly relaxing — addition to your care.
Assessing Suitability for Cupping
We start by identifying the areas of concern and determining whether cupping will be helpful. It’s not for everyone — but when it’s right, it can shift deep restrictions that haven’t responded to massage alone.
Review history of tension, injury, or recovery needs
Check for contraindications (e.g., certain medications or skin conditions)
Identify areas where cupping may help circulation or fascial release
Application of Cups and Suction
Using silicone or glass cups, I apply gentle suction to targeted areas. The suction lifts the tissue and encourages blood and lymphatic movement. Cups may be left stationary or moved slowly over the skin, depending on your needs.
Stimulates circulation and tissue repair
Can be used statically or with slow, gliding motion
Often used on back, shoulders, and hips
May produce temporary circular marks that fade within days
Integrating into a Broader Treatment
Cupping is rarely used alone — it complements other remedial massage techniques. After cupping, I may follow up with deeper hands-on work or stretching to further support tissue release and realignment.
Works well with deep tissue or myofascial techniques
Post-treatment advice includes hydration and rest
Clients often report a deep sense of relief and looseness
No downtime needed — you can go about your day as usual
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might want to know before booking your massage — from health fund rebates to how to prepare for your session.
Do I need to know what kind of massage I want before I book?
Not at all. We'll talk through what's going on in your body and decide on the right approach together. You don't need to know the terms — just how you're feeling.
Can I claim through my private health insurance?
Yes. I’m a registered provider with most major health funds. You’ll receive an invoice after your session that you can submit to your fund for a rebate, depending on your level of cover.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Just wear comfortable clothes. You’ll be draped with towels during the massage and only the area being treated will be uncovered at any time.
I'm pregnant — is massage safe for me?
Absolutely. I offer safe, professional pregnancy massage with supportive positioning and techniques appropriate for each trimester.
Will it hurt?
Massage should never be painful. Some techniques may feel intense, but we’ll always work within your comfort zone. I’ll check in regularly and adjust as needed.
How long is a session?
Sessions typically run for 60 or 90 minutes, depending on what we’re working on. If you're unsure what to book, feel free to get in touch.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens! Just give as much notice as you can. I appreciate at least 24 hours’ notice so I can offer your spot to someone else.
Where is your clinic located?
I work from a private clinic in Ranelagh, Tasmania — just a few minutes from Huonville. The full address is provided when you book.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes, absolutely. Massage makes a thoughtful, practical gift. You can contact me directly to organise a digital or physical voucher.
